Throughout this past school year, Enactus Lakehead has been faced with numerous challenges, but they were still able to complete their main goal, educate others on the importance of financial literacy. Enactus Lakehead is a business club located on the Thunder Bay campus that is open to students from all faculties. This year, they have been focusing on their project GetFinLit, a financial literacy workshop, in which they received funding from the RBC Future Launch Program. Through the funding from RBC and support from formal and informal mentors in the Lakehead and surrounding community, they were able to participate in the Enactus Canada Regional Expedition.
During the Regional Expedition, students were given the ability to learn from other teams, participate in Career Prep Sessions to get tips on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and interview skills, and a Career Fair, as well as take part in a Pitch Competition. Although none of their pitches won any awards, they won the Excellence in Innovation award which will soon be placed in their trophy case in the Ryan Building.
For the closing ceremonies of the Regional Expedition, the team gathered to watch the ceremony. During the event, they were honoured to have the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. David Richards join them, as well as their Faculty Advisor, Ms. Alyson MacKay and a video submission from their Lead Faculty Advisor, Dr. Mike Dohan.
The team is currently striving to further the reach of their project by educating both the Lakehead student community and the local high school student communities about the importance of financial literacy, using their amazing partnerships and connections.
